The Directors Team leads Skill's work in post-16 education, work-based learning and employment for disabled students, trainees and jobseekers throughout the UK. Barbara has been Chief Executive since 1997 and is responsible overall for Skill's management and mission. Andrea leads the Policy Team and takes forward our Parliamentary and Higher Education policy work. Claire is responsible for the key areas of human resources, governance, and charity and company administration. The Directors also develop our work in Scotland and Wales.

The Policy Team monitors the policy environment as it affects disabled students and jobseekers, and influences policy makers and professional bodies. The Policy Director leads the team and focuses on our Parliamentary work and Higher Education, including access and support for disabled students, teaching and learning, student finance, and implementation of the Disability Discrimination Act. Robert and Helen develop our work in the areas of Further Education, Adult and Community Learning, Work-Based Learning, transition and volunteering. The team also promotes good practice through workshops, presentations, training and consultancy.

The Information Team runs a national helpine service. Anne leads the team and ensures the quality and confidentiality of our response to enquirers. She maintains and develops the Skill website and runs our youth involvement projects. Tony writes booklets and guides for disabled students and develops online resources for families and external organisations. Hannah and Victoria answer the telephone, email and postal enquiries. They also research and write our publications and maintain the Into HE and FE online listings. Megan Luck works on our vinvolved youth volunteering project - Volunteer Voices. She is responsible for recruiting and supporting young disabled people to work with Skill through part time and one-off volunteering opportunities, and is helping us become more youth-led. The team also produces the Skill members' newsletters.

Gary Clarke works on our Young Community Volunteers project. Gary works in the community to support disabled young  people aged 16-25 years into volunteering, and to help and encourage employers and organisations to provide volunteering oppportunities to involve disabled young people.

Conferences and Publications

Sally Hayward

Sally organises all Skill’s events, including our two annual post-16 and higher education conferences for staff and practitioners in the sector. She works closely with the Information Team to coordinate the production of our publications, including the Into careers guide series, and is responsible for publishing the peer-reviewed Skill Journal.


Fundraising

Carol Ward

Carol works with staff to identify suitable projects within Skill's mission, research funding opportunities and make applications for grants from government, trusts and the Lottery. She also recruits a London Marathon team and skydivers, promotes legacies through Remember a Charity, and encourages Skill's members and supporters to fundraise for Skill.

The business Development manager is responsible for developing the consultancy, research and training side of Skill’s work. They research and prepare bids and tenders, manage contracts and liaise with the Policy and Information Teams to develop and promote new Skill products and services. The administrative assistant provides administrative support and reports to the Business Development manager.

The Finance and Administration Teams carry out the key functions of the London office. Vivek manages and maintains Skill's financial and membership systems and ensures our accountability as a charity. Sylvia handles all invoices and payments. She also processes publication orders and membership applications. The finance officer is responsible for keeping the accounts. Emily supports Skill's Directors and the Council, and assists project staff. Georgina staffs the reception desk and provides secretarial support to the Administration and Resources Director, to ensure the smooth running of the office.

The Skill Scotland Team takes forward our work in the devolved nations. John has overall responsibility for developing Skill Scotland's services. He manages the team, supports the Branch Committee, and fundraises. He also carries out training and consultancy work, and represents Skill Scotland to other organisations and agencies. Lesley runs the Information Service in Scotland, answering enquiries from disabled learners and their families, and producing Scottish information booklets and newsletters. She takes the lead on policy work in Scotland, responding to government consultations on issues which affect disabled learners, taking part in advisory groups, and doing campaigning work. Wakako is Skill Scotland's first point of contact for members of the public. They carry out the key administrative functions of the office and provides support for Skill Scotland's conferences, AGMs and Branch Committee meetings.

The Development Officer is responsible for developing policy for Skill Wales, and building and maintaining networks and links with stakeholders. Lisa supports the Development Officer and carries out the key administrative functions of the office.
