2010 conference - Supporting Students with Mental Health Problems in Scotland's Colleges and Universities: Professional responsibilities, best practice and the road to recovery
This conference focused on issues relating to mental health in colleges and universities. The key aims of the conference were to:
- showcase good practice in support for students with mental health problems
- consider the role of lifelong learning as a route to recovery for people with mental health problems
- provide guidance on the policy, practical and legal context regarding support for students with mental health problems
- encourage and support students to create 'mentally positive' environments for all students and staff.

2009 conference - Working in partnership to support disabled learners
Skill Scotland's 2009 conference focused on good practice around partnership working to support disabled learners. Applying to both further and higher education, the main aims of the conference were to:
- encourage effective partnership working between the various agencies involved in supporting disabled learners
- provide guidance on the roles and responsibilities of these agencies to support disabled learners
- stimulate discussion around inclusiveness and cross-agency working
- showcase good practice regarding partnership working.
The Scottish Government's revised 'Partnership Matters' guidance was launched at this conference - guidance relating to the roles and responsibilties of the various agencies involved in supporting learners with additional support needs in Scottish further and higher education.

2008 conference - From Learning to Earning: transitions from education to employment
Our conference this year focused on issues relating to disabled students' transition from college or university to employment. The conference took place on 11 June at Glasgow Caledonian University, and included presentations from:
- Julie-Anne Jamieson (Careers Scotland) - an overview of the way in which Careers Scotland support disabled learners and jobseekers.
- Annette Monaghan (NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde) - an employer's perspective: summary of the way in which the NHS, Scotland's largest employer, aims to attract and support disabled jobseekers and employees.
- John Perry (Strathclyde Police) - an employer's perspective: highlighting Strathclyde Police's work regarding disability issues and employment.
- Gareth Parry (Remploy) - summary of the key trends regarding disabled learners' transition from education to employment, and an overview of Remploy's services.
- Kelly Curran - an employee's perspective: personal experience of transition, and practical 'top tips' for improving disabled learners' transition into employment.
Workshops covered a wide range of issues, including work placements, funding and support, employment law, personal and employer experiences, and support services for disabled jobseekers.

2007 conference - One Year On: Building on the Disability Equality Duties in Scotland's Colleges and HEIs
Joint conference from Skill Scotland, the Scottish Disability Team and Equality Forward
This conference was held on 4 December at the West Park Centre in Dundee. As well as looking back on lessons to be learned from the first year of the DED, the conference also specifically considered the six 'general duties':
- promoting equality of opportunity
- eliminating unlawful discrimination
- eliminating disability-related harassment
- more favourable treatment
- promoting positive attitudes towards disabled people
- encouraging participation by disabled people in public life
Workshop participants were also give the opportunity to self-assess their institution's progress towards meeting the general duties by considering key areas of development.
2006 conference - The Disability Equality Duty: involving disabled people
Skill Scotland recently held a conference on the Disability Equality Duty, on 17 May in Dundee. The conference focused on the duty to involve disabled people and included presentations and workshops from disabled students, professionals and Skill staff.
