New codes of practice for the DDA part 2 (Employment)

Back to homepage

The DRC is carrying out a public consultation on two new Codes of Practice on Employment and Occupation, and on Trade Organisations and Qualifications Bodies.

The new draft Codes reflect changes to the employment provisions of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 that are coming into force next year. As from 1 October 2004, the Act will cover all employers, regardless of size. It will also cover other forms of occupation, such as the police force and partnerships. Qualifications bodies will also be covered for the first time.

There will be two main forms of discrimination - direct discrimination and failure to make reasonable adjustments. If you wish to read the draft codes and make any comments, the weblink is

The public consultation will run from 1 September 2003 to 30 November 2003.
